Growing up in the West Island, my world was a beautiful mix of cultures, but the moment I turned on the TV or looked at a sports poster on my wall, that diversity vanished. As a Chinese Canadian girl with big dreams, I was constantly looking for a blueprint a "me" in the industries I loved.
But the blueprint didn't exist.
Whether it was the sports world or the entertainment industry, people who looked like me were usually in the background. We were the "support staff," the "extra," or the "afterthought." When you grow up without seeing yourself as the lead character, you start to believe that your role in life is to stay in the wings.
I’m writing this because I know exactly how it feels to walk into a room and realize no one expected you to be the one in charge.
Breaking the Silence
Breaking into spaces that weren't designed for us is exhausting. You aren't just fighting for a job or a title; you’re fighting against decades of "that’s just not how it’s done."
For a long time, I felt like I had to work twice as hard just to be noticed, let alone respected. I realized that if I waited for the industry to "catch up" and finally see my value, I’d be waiting forever.
That’s where the vision for KNg Dynasty truly started. It wasn't just about a brand; it was about a mindset. It was about taking that feeling of being an "afterthought" and turning it into my greatest competitive advantage.
Why "KNg" Matters to Me
The name of this brand isn't just a label it’s my life’s work. It’s the literal bonding of my heritage and my future. The Ng represents my roots, my maiden name, and the Chinese heritage that shaped my work ethic and my perspective. The K represents the family I’ve built with my husband, the Knauls.
Together, they form a Dynasty.
To me, a dynasty isn't just about power; it’s about legacy. It’s about ensuring that my daughter never has to look at a screen and wonder if she’s allowed to be the hero of her own story. She will see her mother leading, creating, and advising in rooms where we once weren't even invited.
My Message to You
If you’ve ever felt like an afterthought, I want you to hear this:
Your "different" is your edge. Because I didn't see a path laid out for me, I had to learn how to blaze my own. That made me more resourceful, more resilient, and more creative.
Don't wait for the invitation. If the door is locked, build a new house. Create the agency, launch the brand, or start the movement.
Honor your roots. My Chinese heritage isn't something I leave at the door when I talk business. It’s the lens through which I see strategy, community, and mentorship.
Final Thoughts
We are moving past the era of just "fitting in." We are in the era of taking over. Every time I mentor an athlete, design a new piece for the brand, or sit down for a strategy session, I’m doing it for that kid who didn't see herself represented.
I see you. I am you. And together, we’re building something they can’t ignore.
Let’s build our legacy.
