A Culinary Awakening: Fueling My Journey as an Athlete and Individual

There’s something sacred about the first bite.

The steam rising from a freshly cooked dish, the quiet pause before your chopsticks or fork meet the plate it’s not just food. It’s memory. It’s emotion. It’s fuel. For me, food has always been more than nourishment it’s been a cultural compass and a personal awakening that shaped who I am both on and off the field.

The Beginning: Flavors That Spoke Before Words

Growing up in a Chinese-Canadian household, our kitchen was a place of motion and magic. The sizzle of garlic in a wok, the sharp fragrance of scallions, the golden skin of soy-sauce chicken they weren’t just meals; they were stories. My grandmother’s hands told those stories best, shaping dumplings with quiet precision and strength that mirrored the grit I would later need as an athlete.

Back then, I didn’t know what it meant to be strong. I didn’t know what it meant to push past limits. But I knew how to show up to the table, how to serve and be served, and how every meal was an act of love, discipline, and legacy.

The Awakening: When the Kitchen Became the Gym

It wasn’t until I started training seriously that I realized food was my silent coach.
While others spoke macros and protein, I was rediscovering the wisdom of ancestral cooking. Congee on recovery days. Ginger and red dates during winter training. Balanced portions rooted in yin and yang. These weren’t trends they were tradition. I wasn’t just training my body. I was respecting my heritage.

This was my culinary awakening:
Understanding that every choice I made in the kitchen and in life shaped my performance, my mindset, my values. I trained with intensity, but I ate with reverence. I stretched with intention, but I cooked with soul. I learned that strength isn’t just built in the gym it’s stirred in a pot, passed down through generations, and plated with pride.

Identity: More Than an Athlete

Being part of the KNg Dynasty isn’t just about excellence it’s about identity.
It’s about reclaiming the parts of ourselves that the world doesn’t always see or understand. For me, food became that bridge. It reminded me where I came from when the world tried to define me. It grounded me when competition pulled me in every direction. It gave me space to breathe, to reflect, to feel human again.

And let’s be real there’s nothing more fierce than showing up to the world fully fed, fully loved, and fully rooted.

The Lesson: What Fuels You, Shapes You

We all have our “why.”
For some, it’s the thrill of victory. For others, it’s proving someone wrong. But for me? It’s the quiet moments in the kitchen. The memories of my family. The reminder that my strength was forged long before the track, the ring, or the court it started at the dinner table.

I am fierce because I know where I come from.
I am confident because I honor what fuels me.
I am KNg Dynasty on and off the field.

Your Turn:

Ask yourself, What’s feeding your soul?
Is it legacy? Is it resilience? Is it the scent of home on your plate?
Whatever it is, embrace it. Let it drive you. Let it become your dynasty.
