Every morning, my four-year-old daughter and I share a short but sacred moment during our drive to school. With praise and worship music playing softly in the background, we talk, we pray, and I try to speak life over her — planting seeds of faith and truth, even in just a few minutes.
But today, as we pulled out of the driveway, she turned to me with the kind of pure-hearted curiosity only a child can have.
“Mama, why is Jesus crying?”
It stopped me. Just like that — one sentence, deeply spiritual, and unexpectedly profound.
I took a breath and did my best to meet her where she was, at four years old. I told her, “Jesus cries because some people don’t want to have a relationship with Him. They try to do everything on their own and don’t realize how amazing He is or how much He loves them.”
She simply said, “Oh.”
Then I added, “You can make Jesus smile just by talking to Him. Anytime. Anywhere. When you wake up, you can say, ‘Thank you, Jesus, for waking me up this morning!’ He loves that. He loves you.”
A Simple Question, A Powerful Reflection
After I dropped her off, I sat with her question in my spirit. Why is Jesus crying?
We live in a world full of distractions, chaos, and pain. As mothers, we long to shield our children from it — to guard their innocence and guide their hearts. And while we can’t control everything, we can pray. Prayer is our greatest weapon and deepest shield.
Prayer is where peace begins.
Prayer is how we protect.
Prayer is how we lead.
God truly works in mysterious ways — through moments like these, through the mouths of babes, through quiet rides to school and whispered prayers in the dark.
My Peace Comes From Him
When I was younger, classmates would ask, “Why are you never stressed during tests?” or “Why are you always so happy?” I never had a perfect answer back then. But now, as a woman shaped by faith and grace, I understand.
My peace came — and still comes — from my relationship with Jesus. Through the loss of my father when I was young, through the unknowns of adulthood, through motherhood — He has been my constant. His love has carried me, corrected me, and covered me.
And now, it’s my desire to pass that legacy on to my children. To raise them in faith. To help them understand the power of prayer and the beauty of having a relationship with Jesus — not as religion, but as real love.
KNg Dynasty Legacy: Building Fierce Faith in the Next Generation
At KNg Dynasty, we talk a lot about confidence, culture, and legacy — and this moment reminded me that spiritual legacy is one of the fiercest things we can pass down.
To love Jesus.
To talk to Him like a friend.
To comfort His heart by simply living in relationship with Him.
So today I ask you — from one parent to another, from one believer to another:
What would you say if your child asked, “Why is Jesus crying?”
Let that question not just challenge your heart — but call you to action.
Because the fiercest thing we can do…
is raise up a generation that makes Jesus smile.
